J. Lohr

J. Lohr – California, USA

Overview

Founded in 1974 by Jerry Lohr, J. Lohr is a pioneering Central Coast producer that helped establish both Monterey’s Arroyo Seco and Paso Robles as premium wine regions. Starting with 280 acres in the early 1970s, the winery has grown into a major yet still family-owned operation with extensive estate vineyards across California.

The Lohr family remains actively involved, with Steve Lohr serving as CEO. Vineyard sites were carefully selected to match varietals—cool-climate Monterey for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and warmer Paso Robles for Cabernet Sauvignon. Farming focuses on sustainability and site-specific viticulture, while winemaking under VP Steve Peck balances scale with consistency, producing accessible, well-structured wines across multiple tiers.
