Freeman

Freeman – Russian River Valley & West Sonoma Coast, California

Small-production, collector-loved Pinot Noir and Chardonnay built on balance, refinement, and detail.

Overview

Freeman Vineyard & Winery was founded in 2001 by Ken and Akiko Freeman in Sonoma’s cool-climate Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. What began as a small-scale project has grown into a highly regarded producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with a strong focus on elegance and site expression. Akiko Freeman now leads all aspects of viticulture and winemaking, following early collaboration with consultant Ed Kurtzman.
The vineyards, including the estate Gloria site in Green Valley, are situated on Goldridge sandy loam soils and influenced by coastal fog and cool temperatures, ideal for producing wines with freshness and finesse. The estate is certified organic, with a long-standing commitment to sustainable vineyard practices. Winemaking is deliberately restrained—using native expression, gentle extraction and neutral oak—to highlight purity, balance and the nuanced character of each site.
