Far Niente

Far Niente – Napa Valley, California

Overview

Far Niente was originally founded in 1885 in Oakville and later restored in 1979 by Gil Nickel, who revived the historic estate with a focus on premium Napa Valley wines. The winery remains associated with the Nickel family and operates as part of a luxury wine group, maintaining a strong identity rooted in heritage and craftsmanship.

Located in the prestigious Oakville AVA, the estate benefits from well-drained alluvial soils and an ideal balance of warm days and cool nights, particularly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Winemaking is led by Nicole Marchesi, whose approach emphasises elegance, precision and consistency, with a strong focus on estate fruit and meticulous vineyard management. The wines are positioned at the luxury end of Napa, combining richness with refinement and long ageing potential.
