Donkey & Goat

Donkey & Goat – Berkeley, California

Natural-leaning California wines with lift and energy—small lots, grower relationships, and minimal intervention.

Overview

Donkey & Goat was founded in 2004 by husband-and-wife team Jared and Tracey Brandt in Berkeley, California, and is considered one of the pioneers of the American natural wine movement. Inspired by time spent working with Rhône winemaker Eric Texier, the Brandts set out to apply low-intervention techniques to Californian fruit, building a reputation for authenticity and innovation.

The winery works with organically and biodynamically farmed vineyards across California, including Mendocino, Napa and the Sierra Foothills, selecting sites that reflect their commitment to healthy soils and ecological farming. In the cellar, the philosophy is uncompromising: native fermentations, minimal sulphur, no fining or filtering, and a focus on transparency. The wines are vibrant, expressive and deliberately unconventional, emphasising terroir and vintage character.
